The funny thing is the kid who made the video lives in NY and speaks perfect English, but I think he figured out mostly people who spoke Russian were watching his videos, so he makes them mostly in Russian now.

It’s some commie piece of junk driven by a commie because the politburo denied him the authority to order an “imperialist Mercedes produced by those capitalist pigs in West Germany.”

Those Russian/USSR limousines are awesome. (Newer) ZIL limousines are still in production but the production numbers are really low.

Here’s a picture from the manufacturer’s page. Those blue lights are used by “important cars” in Russia and you can use them to make otherwise illegal maneuvers. I guess they are marketing them pretty much solely to governmental use.

They finally got ‘net in your trailer park, huh, Bubba? ZILs were modeled after American cars of the day. Many had bulletproof bodies, all were relatively powerful V8s with automatics and they were completely hand built. Your average 70s Mercedes got nothing on those cars.

I spoke at length with the owners son who presented this car at the show and is quite knowledgeable about the history of the vehicle. Keep in mind the car was very advanced for it’s time and was using the latest technologies available 30 years ago. It’s one of only a few produced. The limo has armored panels but door glass is not so the windows can be lowered, several phone systems, 3 ignition systems, protected wiring to prevent the car from shutting down due to electronic pulse explosions. Interior carpet was quite elaborate, almost like a leopard skin pattern to mask the dirt and dust from Russian roads. The vehicle has a large diesel/truck engine and has enormous torque, it will get up and go even though it weighs approximately 8,500 pounds, it rides on self-sealing Michelin tires and stops with 12 piston brakes that still require some distance to hault this behemoth. The limo has a very large armored plate at the base to prevent road bearing explosions from affecting the interior cabin but duals as a lower center of gravity to keep the car from rolling over or lifting very much at high speed turns. The angle of the roof antenna would signal which head of state was in the car (e.g., Gorbachev) or if the car was traveling empty.
